16- Mount Wellington and MONA

November 14, 2022

This morning we met our bus at our Hotel Ibis Styles. It was cold and raining and we were ready to see the most amazing view from the top of Mount Wellington which is 1,271 meters high and shows an amazing view of Hobart and surrounding areas. When we arrived at the summit we could have been anywhere, the fog was so thick we couldn’t see the viewing platform, plus were quite cold from the cold damp weather.  The pictures I have added are not ours, but pictures of what we could have seen on a nice day. Our bus returned to the bottom of the mountain and dropped us off at the MONA ferry terminal.

“The Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) is an art museum located within the Moorilla winery on the Berriedale peninsula in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. It is the largest privately funded museum in the Southern Hemisphere. MONA houses ancient, modern and contemporary art from the David Walsh collection.” -From Wiki

To get to MONA you need to travel by fast ferry to the site. MONA is very different, some people find it offensive or strange but we are glad we went. In the evening we were dropped off at the Ferry terminal and walked back up to the Ibis Styles Hotel. Good hotel, clean and dependable. Again, we were glad to get back and thaw out. Layers just don’t measure up to a nice down filled coat.  We wished for their warmth since we arrived in Taz….4 C the other morning.

This is what our view from Mt Wellington should have looked like.

  1. The two occasions on which we also got to the summit of Mt Wellington we were also fogged out plus we nearly got blown off!
